There was a drive day pencilled in for this coming Sunday (29th) as this is the standing time of the month for drive days.
However no drive has been organised in time so there won’t be any drive on Sunday.
The April Caffeine Run was originally scheduled for May 9th, it’s normal ‘weekend after Committee Meeting’ date. Then we realised it was Mothers Day and decided that was too much competition for hearts and minds.
We had flagged we might move the Caffeine Run to link up with the Maling Rd Autoclassico, so it was decided to go with that option. That makes it Sunday 15th May.
Head on down to Maling Rd in Canterbury to catch up with the club display – the RCCV has a select bunch of cars representing it amongst a raft of others – and get your monthly club caffeine fix.
We’re not nominating any particular one of the several coffee venues as ‘the’ place for ‘caffeine’ as it’s going to be crowded, unpredictable and maybe unable to get our full group into the one place.
Watch our facebook page on the day, or use the phone, when you get there, to find out where others who are there ended up.
The April drive day sees the introduction of a new format – the ‘REMD’. That stands for Renault Early Morning Drive. Kick off early, get the drive in and have more of the tail of the day free.
It’s also specially designed to cater to those in more spritely Renaults (and Alpines*) as well as those in more sedate historic models. The drive will proceed in two groups with the faster group going first so as to not be held back by more sensible slower members .
The start point is McDonalds at the corner of Blackburn and Doncaster Roads in Doncaster East. Meet there in time to get your starter coffee and be ready to depart at 8am.
Head off to Marysville via Reefton Spur for coffee and toilet stop.
From the Reefton Hotel we travel towards Marysville then veer off to Lake Mountain for a photo opportunity, and then return back to take the road to Marysville for lunch.
Lunch is at a restaurant / café TBA – we’re waiting on responses from a couple of places at Marysville.
The intended participants will have to register with the RCCV social secretaries (ie : Rob or Kay Belcourt on ) to obtain the instruction sheet prior to the event.
REMEMBER: no registration = no route details as the organisers have to confirm type of Renault model participants will be driving and the lunch numbers prior to the event date.
Non-members are welcome to join us on this drive – same as for any of the club’s drive days. BUT they will have to register for the run first.
Participants are advised to refuel at the BP service station near the McDonald restaurant (THERE ARE NO FUEL STOPS ON THE WAY)
* I have to give them special mention ‘cos Alpine owners are funny that way!
Find your way to Kanteen at 154 Alexandra Avenue, South Yarra to join members and other Renault lovers for coffee and chat next Sunday – the 10th (not 15th as previously incorrectly advised)
As usual, it starts nominally at 9:30 and goes to 11:00 though, also as usual, some will be there earlier and some stay later. As long as you enjoy yourself, we don’t really care.
Kanteen is opposite Como Park where we held a Round Up a few years ago.
Kanteen offers ‘Turkish pizzas & hearty breakfasts in a riverside cafe with outdoor tables & a laid-back vibe’. See their Facebook page for more.
I’m sure also that you’ll find someone to tell you how well the recent GART (Great Alpine Road Trip) went off.
This caffeine run was previously advised to be at The Relief Unit 2 in South Melbourne. Late emerging info is that it’s not open Sundays, so that put paid to that.
March’s Caffeine Run is on the 6th, starting 9:30 am or so, and will be at Friction in Essendon Fields – the old Essendon Airport for those who remember those days.
Full locations is: Friction Essendon, Shop 12/30 English St, Essendon Fields VIC 3041, Australia. Google will find it.
Get together with club members and other Renault fans for coffee and chat – brekky too if you want. Or come along and see what a bit of Melbourne’s history, ie the original international airport, has turned into instead of just driving past it on the way to somewhere else.
Check out the coffee place and Menu here: https://www.frictionessendon.com.au
Has indoor and outdoor areas, so suitable for a balance of catering for weather options or Covid risk tolerances. See yous all there!
The December General Meeting has been changed to be at the Club’s Xmas break-up at Lysterfield Lake on Sunday, December 12th.
Final notice for the 2021 Annual General Meeting.
The AGM is to be held on November 16th, commencing 7:30pm, at the club rooms in the Dorothy Laver Pavilion, Saxby Street, Glen Iris.
Nominations for Office Bearers and general committee members must be received by the Secretary seven days before the AGM. Nominations have already been received for all office bearer positions.
This means that, under the club constitution rules, no nominations for these positions can be received at the AGM itself. If you wish to nominate someone or be nominated for an office bearer position, such nomination, validly completed and seconded, must reach the Secretary by 7:30pm 9th November 2021.
While more than the required minimum number of nominations for general committee members have been received, additional nominations may still be accepted at the AGM; there being no upper limit imposed by the rules.
This meeting is more than just an AGM.
Firstly, there will be a couple of awards to be presented. As you know, the AGM has been deferred from it’s usual July time because of Covid lockdowns and the club’s desire to hold the meeting in person if possible. These awards are what drove that desire for an in-person meeting.
Secondly, we have arranged a guest speaker for the evening. Paul Groom, of Auto Paris, will give a talk on ‘Hotting up a Clio’. Many of us have some understanding of what changes tended to be made to improve the performance of cars before they became computerised. Electronic engine management systems bring a whole range of new possibilities, and issues, into play. Paul will give us a peek into those, using a couple of Clios as examples.
Third, a special ‘celebratory’ supper will be provided. We have our first in-person meeting after getting through the 2021 Covid outbreak to celebrate (I’ll keep telling myself we are indeed ‘through’ it – at least until I can’t any more), and the Awards to celebrate as well as being the AGM.
We intend to hold the meeting largely out-doors, weather permitting. Hopefully this spell of torrid weather will have ended by then. COVIDSafe Settings rules will apply – QR code check-in, masks required indoors, unlimited capacity if all attendees fully vaccinated, capacity of 30 attendees if vaccination status of any is unknown. We will check vaccination status for the purpose of determining the capacity limit.
I know many members avoid the AGM, fearing pressure to enlist in official capacities and the dry ‘boredom’ of an AGM. We have put some effort into making the AGM less boring than usual and, with activities opening up in the coming months, there is much to talk about and communicate. And, for the committee, member input and feedback is important. I encourage all members to attend if they can.

We’ve finally got a plan for the Caffeine Run next Sunday 14th November that we think will work. Our first after lockdown, yay!
Silvan Dam Lookout, Mt Dandenong Tourist Rd & Ridge Rd junction Kalorama.
Destiny Point Cafe (over the road) for takeaway coffee & bites.
It’ll be like the Studley Park boathouse – get your coffee, stand in a group.
Usual timing – from 9:30-ish to 11:00-ish.
Parking OK yesterday for at least 20 cars on top of what was already there.
Overflow parking down side streets.
Watch out for cyclists, especially around Sassafras if you come that way.
Wild weather has caused power outages several times lately and this weather could continue.
Check our facebook page for any late breaking news or changes – it’s where ‘as it happens’ updates come out.
Lockdown #6 has put paid to:
– August Caffeine Run that was to be to the Stonehouse Cafe in Warrandyte East, and then Plan B at Studley Park Boathouse. But nooo, neither was to be.
– AGM that was to be August 17th deferred to September 21st. August GM to be a ZGM (zoomed general meeting, of course).
– August 22nd Maling Road car display can’t go ahead as lockdown scheduled to last at least to September 2nd. Will we be allowed out for Fathers Days?
– Anyway, that end date stitches up the August Drive day that was to be on the 29th. This run heads north of the city to Seymour and Yea with a lunch at Trawool Estate. It’s been put back to September – can’t waste a good plan.
– No bets on this lockdown ending on Sept 2nd with us being able to hobnob freely but we’re keeping the planning going. Got to be ready to move when there’s a crack – as the old song goes ‘never let a chance go by’
When: Sun, 11 July, 09:30 – 11:00
Where: Oasis Fairfield, 92-96 Station St, Fairfield VIC 3078, Australia (map)
Come and gather for coffee, croissants and conversation. Get out and enjoy some company before the northern outbreak heads south!
We’re booked in under the name ‘RCCV’
